Ways to serve
Service to others starts at home. That's why MMC has developed service programs that focus on developing leadership skills within the college environment and encouraging students to apply what they've learned to serving their own communities and the world. We're helping students become active leaders and learners for a diverse, global community.
Student government
The Student Government Association helps students develop the leadership qualities they need to be effective members of a governing body. SGA is made up of the Executive Board, the Senate and the House of Representatives. Together, these three divisions help plan many events throughout the year, including the Welcome Back Barbeque, the New Student Orientation, the Halloween Party and the Snowball Dance. All students are encouraged to take part in student government to create a diverse representation of the larger student body.
Leadership scholars
The Emerging Leaders Program was designed for students with a desire to develop their leadership skills. The program spans all four years at MMC: During the first year, scholars attend keynote addresses, workshops and a mentoring program in a New York City elementary school. Second-year students continue the program by continuing their mentoring project and assisting in planning the yearly Leadership Conference. After completion of the second year, students are encouraged to become resident assistants, peer educators, club leaders, volunteers, student government representatives and more. The program supplies the foundation for strong leadership that students will take with them into the world.
