Major Gifts to MMC
(July 1, 2006 - December 31, 2006)
Trustee Judy '03 and Russell Carson contributed $1 million, the second installment of their $5 million pledge in 2005. The Carsons also gave $100,000 to the College's Annual Appeal. Both donations were made through the Carson Family Charitable Trust.
Marymount Manhattan received the second $100,000 installment on a $1 million pledge from the Samuel Freeman Charitable Trust. The funds will be used toward the construction of a roof terrace between the Nugent and Main Buildings.
The College received a commitment of $246,000 for the Bedford Hills College Program through the FY06 federal appropriations bill for science, justice and commerce. The funding was included in the bill thanks to the support of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D - NY) and Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (D - NY).
MMC has received $171,000 in funding to support a research project led by Professor Radhika Balakrishnan, Ph.D. A $200,000 grant from the Ford Foundation in Mexico was awarded to partner-organization Fundar, with $121,000 transferred to MMC. A separate $50,000 grant from the Ford Foundation in New York was awarded directly to Marymount Manhattan.
MMC received a grant of $100,000 from the George I. Alden Trust. The grant will be used to create a technology-enhanced classroom in the College's Main Building on 71st Street, and to outfit the Main Building with wireless capability.
The Rowe Family Foundation gave $50,000 to support the Bedford Hills College Program.
The Heckscher Foundation for Children gave the College a grant of $46,700 for the purchase of audiology equipment for the Ruth Smadbeck Communication and Learning Center.
Robert F. Dall made a donation of $30,000 in unrestricted funds to the College.
Board of Trustees Chair Anne C. Flannery '73 donated $25,000 to the Annual Appeal.
Theresa '97 and Eugene Lang gave $25,000 through the Eugene M. Lang Foundation, to be added to the Theresa Lang Scholarship Fund.
Erwin A. Zeuschner contributed $25,000 in unrestricted funds to the College.
The Goodman Memorial Foundation contributed $25,000 for the Writing Center.
The Ambrose Monell Foundation gave a $25,000 grant in unrestricted funds to MMC.
Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Clayton-Spray donated $20,000 to establish the Angellica Clayton-Spray Scholarship Award to support a senior speech pathology student with a serious interest in developing a career in the speech pathology and audiology field.
Mr. and Mrs. James H. Simons P'09 contributed $20,000 to the Annual Appeal.
Trustee Edgar Eisner contributed $15,109 to the Annual Appeal.
Trustee James Hornor gave $12,000 to the Annual Appeal through the Herman and Henrietta Denzler Charitable Trust.
The Trust for Mutual Understanding donated $11,590 for Bilateral Teaching Exchange: Russian and American Techniques in Voice Theatre. The funds represent the remaining balance of a grant originally given by the Trust to San Diego State. The funds were transferred to MMC to support the work of new faculty member Jeff Morrison.
Trustee Richard Berry contributed $10,000 to the Annual Appeal.
Trustee Gloria Bohan '63 donated $10,000 to the Annual Appeal.
Geraldine Ferraro '56 gave $10,000 to the Antonetta Ferraro Scholarship Fund.
Trustee Mary Greason '86 contributed $10,000 to the Annual Appeal.
Jacqueline '94 and James Lynch donated $10,000 to the Jacqueline Lynch Scholarship Fund through the Lynch Family Fund at the Community Foundation of New Jersey.
Trustee Louis A. Martarano gave $10,000 toward the Louis Martarano Scholarship Fund.
Sheila Wishek contributed $10,000 for the Bedford Hills College Program.
The Mortimer Levitt Foundation, Inc. gave $10,000 for the Writing Center.
