Sister Judith Savard
Sister Judith Savard, RSHM, taught at Marymount Manhattan College from the early
1960s until her death in 2004. She was an inspiration, teacher and mentor to
generations of students. Sr. Judith led classes in art history, studio art and
graphic design, in addition to serving as head of the Art Department for many
years. She created an integrated, multi-faceted art major that continues to thrive
at MMC.
To honor her memory, two special funds are being established:
The Sr. Judith Savard Endowed Travel Fellowship
Sr. Judith believed deeply in the value of seeing and experiencing art first-hand
to enhance awareness of differing social, political and cultural perspectives. This
Fellowship will provide financial assistance for a student to study abroad for the
January term, summer, or a semester. An art major or minor who has completed his/her
first year at MMC, with a G.P.A. of 3.0 or higher and a demonstrated financial need
may apply for the Sr. Judith Savard Endowed Travel Fellowship.
The Sr. Judith Savard Faculty Chair
The Sr. Judith Savard fixed-term academic chair will permit a member of MMC's Art
Department to receive awards for his/her research, while continuing to receive a
salary and related benefits. The creation of this fixed-term chair will enable the
College to hire an additional full-time faculty member, strengthening the College's
commitment to academic excellence.
