Dr. Marvelle S. Colby
Dr. Marvelle S. Colby was a dynamic leader in the field of business management studies
during her twenty-one year tenure at Marymount Manhattan College. After
many years in the business world, Dr. Colby was drawn to teaching at MMC and noted,
"I had something to say and I thought I could make a difference."
To her colleagues, she offered leadership and vision during her fifteen years
as Chair of the Division of Accounting and Business Management. To legions of students,
Dr. Colby served as a role model of scholarship and accomplishment.
A number of Dr. Colby's former students, faculty, staff and former colleagues have
joined together to create this endowed scholarship fund to ensure that her legacy will
live on at the College for years to come. Scholarships are available to economically
disadvantaged students, majoring in business management or accounting, who maintain a
3.0 or higher grade point average. In 2007-2008, the first year that scholarships
were awarded, three student recipients were selected.
A Marymount Manhattan College trustee has made a $50,000 campaign pledge to the Dr. Marvelle
S. Colby Endowed Scholarship Fund to encourage gifts from her fellow alumni.
